*I have recently made some corrections to this pattern. A tutorial on the V-Stitch is coming in the next few days!*
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote up this pattern for a photographer friend in search of newborn props. I wasn't sure if it would be more challenging than anticipated, but fortunately these crowns worked up like a breeze! Aren't they darling?

I considered selling this pattern on Etsy but then decided against it. With Chloe arriving soon, I'm really not motivated to write up anything fancy and make sure it's uber correct. I'll leave the edits for all of you to tell me about in your comments! ;) Seriously, though, my mind is a swirling mess of hormones and exhaustion right now so please do not hesitate to let me know if anything doesn't sound right. I would also be totally willing to post a quick how-to on the V-Stitch, if this would be helpful to anyone. Otherwise, enjoy another free pattern and crochet to your heart's content!
Newborn Crown
Supplies Needed:
- Worsted Weight (4) Yarn
- Hook needed to obtain measurements listed in pattern (I'm 99.99% positive I used an I-Hook, but I could be wrong. For some reason I didn't write down this detail. Go me.)
- Tapestry Needle
1. Chain 46, or
until it measures 12” in length
2. DC in 3rd
chain from the hook and in each chain across (44 stitches or 12.5” long)
3. Ch 3 and
turn; Begin V-Stitches: DC in 2nd
stitch (not counting the beginning ch3), ch 1 and DC again in the same stitch; skip the next two stitches and repeat this same pattern across until the
last 2 stitches. Skip the last 2 and DC in top of beginning ch3 from previous
row. (14 v-stitches)
4. Turn; *{3
HDC, 2 DC, 3 HDC in 1st ch1 space; slip stitch in next ch1 space} *repeat
across; slip stitch in last ch1 space, HDC in top of beginning ch3 from
previous row
Final measurement should be approximately 13" long. Fasten off
and sew together with tail.
Add jewel
embellishments to make it extra snazzy!

ReplyDeletethose are too adorable. i totally want to make a bunch for my toddler. any suggestions on making it bigger?
ReplyDeleteSo adorable! I kind of want one for me ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love this crown! However, I think that rounds 3 has a mistake in it? It says to dc and I think you meant v stitches, bc I see 14 V stitches as the st count at the end.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for pointing this out! Looking at the pattern, I need to go back and make a couple of revisions, for sure. I should have the corrections up soon! ;)

ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this pattern! I worked up this pattern last night and am not sure if I am missing a step. Do we need to do something to make the crown stay up on its own as shown in the photograph. I have a floppy crown.
Thanks,
Fed
Made this crown last night and loved it but was wondering it you had a pattern for toddlers?
